How to make boozy Eggnog: a tried and tested festive eggnog recipe you can make at home this season!
I’ll be the first to admit that the idea of eggnog didn’t appeal to me at first.
I mean a drink, made with eggs that you can pre-purchase in a carton? It was simply not the most appealing of all festive drinks!
However, having now thoroughly researched the topic for you (someone had to do the taste testing, you’re welcome), the Mama Loves team have come up with a boozy alternative that we think even you naysayers will enjoy.
Unlike most of our winter-warmer favourites that we’ve suggested for the festive season, our boozy eggnog is served cold and creamy.
And one teensy secret as we researched the best way to make and serve your eggnog – despite the raw egg – the alcohol content means it can be made in advance and stored in the fridge.
Some have suggested for months but we’ve not made a batch to last that long, yet!
We do encourage you to have some fun with the boozy eggnog concept.
Our recipe here is by no means traditional and trial and error is what it’s all about to find the combination you like – but trust us, if you’re only past experience is the cartoned stuff, please give the homemade version a chance!

Substitute booze for your boozy eggnog
For this recipe, we have used spiced rum, but you can also try dark rum, or bourbon (or a combination!).
Brandy can also work with this recipe and leave you with a lovely warming feeling.
Our favourite adult variation on eggnog though is the Tom & Jerry – you can see our Tom & Jerry cocktail recipe here.
