Variations on our Thermomix Mulled Wine
The great thing about our Thermies – and frankly any cocktail recipe that you want to make – it’s all your choice!
We have played around with the flavours a little, we like it quite strong so have thrown in the extra couple of shots of brandy, as we would in the pot-made mulled wine recipe.
You can vary how much sugar you add depending on taste, and how dry of a red wine you’re using.
What sort of red wine do I need for mulled wine?
The key to a good red for mulled wine is to look for a more full-bodied and fruit-forward red wine, relatively high in tannins.
Something like a Californian Zinfandel will do the job, or a Grenache or a Malbec.
Don’t go raiding your cellar, we would suggest going for something fairly inexpensive from your local bottle shop or supermarket.
Pre-mixed spices for mulled wine
Just as you would in the pot version of mulled wine, there’s no shame in using some pre-mixed spices for your Thermomix Mulled Wine.
Some common flavours and scents you will come across include:
- Cinnamon
- Cardamom
- Ginger
- Clove
- Allspice
- Star Anise
- Juniper Berry
- Orange zest

Non-alcoholic mulled wine in the Thermomix
We are still experimenting with our favourite version for the kids’ alcohol-free mulled wine.
So far, we have found (other than the obvious of omitting the brandy and wine!) that a strong dark grape juice works best.
As these are already reconstituted we’ve not added the extra sugar and water, simply let it mix at 100°C with the spices.
Next time we’re going to try it with a good dollop of honey and see that it’s not too overly sweet.
If you’ve experimented with this and have a recipe for a non-alcoholic version you’d like to share let us know in the comments!
